DataStage Restore

Post by lbegley »

The server is Windows 2000
DataStage 7.5.1A

This is a scheduled rebuild of the server to correct 'other' problems not related to DataStage.
We will be re-installing the DS software after the rebuild.
A FULL system backup will be executed prior to the rebuild.
A DS backup of projects will be executed, using Manager to get read-only files also.
The server will have the same name after the rebuild that it had before the rebuild.

After the server is retured to us what is the 'preferred' method to get DataStage back to the same snap shot before the rebuild.

Thanks in advance

DatStage projects, especially development ones, tend to get messy with extraneous files over time. So my preferred method is to take the backups (both OS & DS) and then re-create an empty project with the same name and do a DataStage level import.

This ensures that no user-defined hashed files are found. They don't belong in the project directory, anyway :)

If the files are needed and cannot be re-generated, then you have the OS level full backup to use.

Document all of the configurations, from DSN's to tuning parms in UVCONFIG. Make sure any database client software is put back exactly.

DS is the easy part, import all the job designs back into their respective projects. Any persistent hash files  should have been backed up or moved somewhere safe, then put back where they need to be.
