Using functions

Post by admin »

Hi,

When I tried using standard string functions in DS, some of them seems to work, but some don't.

For eg.

Alpha("hai") - works

AlNum("hai") - compile error with message:

Compiling: Source = 'DSU_BP/DSU.test2', Object = 'DSU_BP.O/DSU.test2'

Array 'AlNum' never dimensioned.

1 Errors detected, No Object Code Produced.

Any suggessions!

Thanks in advance

Bret

No David, its ALNUM only. I have tried few string and date functions randomly, some of them seems to work properly, but others don't.

OK, I'm a little confused.

I'm not familiar with AlNum - maybe it is a new function that we don't have in 5.2.

If you have tried a few functions and some work, some don't, where are you getting this list of functions that you are trying.

The error you are getting says that DataStage does not recognise that function name (and neither do I for that matter).

I'm assuming from the error message that you are using standard DataStage Server (not mainframe or PX or some other flavour).

Perhaps you can provide more information.

There is no ALNUM in the Universe BASIC Guide or in the server job developers guide. If it is a routine that has been added to your project then you should execute it as DSU.ALNUM.

Call DSU.ALNUM(InputArg, ErrorCode)

Using functions

Post by admin »

The point is that there is no intrinsic function called ALNUM. This you can discover by checking on-line help, the DataStage BASIC manual, or signing up for Ascential's "Programming with DataStage BASIC" class.
You could write your own ALNUM function. This is what the compiler is looking for when it uses the DSU (DataStage User-written) prefix. However, it seems that you have not.
