What is hot in ISD?

Post by qt_ky »

What types of ISD applications (web services) do you have deployed that have a wide interest across the enterprise?

We have a few, such as US address certification, bank routing number validation, and individual death verification.

I am looking for more useful, general purpose web services to offer to our consumers. What is most appealing to the masses?

So... you have a web service that makes sure someone is dead?

Yep, something like that... It's more of an anti-fraud type of thing.

Sometimes it seems like there are only a few customers using the ISD product. Still looking for ideas!

We used the original version of it "back in the day" when it had a different name and it was all quite mysterious to us. And long enough ago that it's probably not relevant to your question. However, it was all about supporting a self-service portal - methods to handle all of the warehouse needs from the GUI so those developers would stop screwing it up on their own.

We use address validation stuff via ISD.

I can also see it used for admin work. Delete file x, migrate job list, etc...

Here are some that I have assisted with, some even recently...
  • Address validation

    Name Matching/de-dup

    Standardization

    Lookups

Re-use of creative code long proven in DataStage, for deciding the "corporate account number" [driving thru a whole lot of lookups to legacy systems of acquired companies]

Publishing of SQL (no DataStage Jobs used) requests that provide nicely sorted lists of "Reference Data" from a whole lot of relational tables sitting in a "reference data" application...even with fancy stylesheets. That's been done very nicely from inside of IGC.

Publishing of detailed datastage Job run statistics coming from DSODB...again...not even requiring DataStage, and displayed with a fancy pre-built stylesheet. To augment IGC.
ISD is a hidden gem that too few have ever taken advantage of. Re-use of DataStage skills and assets for building web services without a stitch of java --- and usually for data sources that are owned (or known) best by the DataStage and/or Data Warehousing or governance teams.
