RCP and adding new columns to flow

Just trying to understand here. If the requirement was to add the date column in RCP, then the column generator alone would accomplish right? Can someone explain why the step to drop the column in Modify is here?

No clue and the person that wrote that hasn't posted here in 4 years so we may never know. Besides, I don't think it played into the solution at all, as you noted.

Thanks for replying.
I guess, the dummy column will need to be dropped before loading to the final table/final action.
