Managing the Template project with DataStage apps

Post by bcarlson »

The template project concept is useful, but the management of this project is very cumbersome at best. We should be able to manage this project like any other project via Administrator, Manager or Designer.

We have figured out ways to handle environment settings (Manipulating and managing the Template project) and to get around the permissions settings (Handling project permissions within the Template project). But these are workarounds, not real (a.k.a 'good') solutions. They do not help when you want to have a set of custom stages added to every project or a before routine that all projects should have.

Perhaps, because of how much the template can impact, the permissions should be more strict: Maybe setup so that any user can SEE it, but only the DataStage administrative userid can physically change it.

Thoughts anyone?

Thank you, I read your :
viewtopic.php?t=106585&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc

But In my datastage 8.5, I can't find any *.adm file in my project folder.

Do you have better solution for new version?

I do care about this issue, please help me check!

Things changes in version 8. Roles are stored in the common metadata repository, not in the Template.
