Scheduling a job

Hi,

We are having a problem where we try and scehdule a job and it appears in the director, but it does not appear in the crontab file. And if we manually put an entry in the crontab file it does not appear in director. Is this information stored elsewhere? and what security permissions do we need on files/directories etc do we need to have as a minimum to schedule a job.

We do have quite a strict security regime. ( I am wondering whether it is too strict, but I do not want to do a 777 on the directories, rather I want to know what permission I need on the files.
