DataStage® Release: 11x
Job Type: Parallel
OS: Unix
Hello,
We have the following problems with the metadata added to Business Objects (BO) elements(universe/folder/object) - BI Model in Information Governance Catalog (IGC).

Context:
We have BO elements imported in IGC which are enriched with several metadata (labels, stewards, assigned to terms, implemented rules,.. and custom attributes) by our data stewards.
For your info, these BO elements are imported in IGC using one of the following scenario:
- IMAM in PROD environment.
- IMAM and ISTOOL to export/import from UAT to PROD environments.

Problems when the BO folders or BO elements are updated (normal life cycle):
The metadata enrichments done by the data stewards are lost when we re-organize the BO objects in a different folder structure or when we rename an BO object.

- Changing the folder name or folder path in Business Objects will create a new BO folder (including its BO elements) in IGC, keeping (istool) or deleting (imam) the initial BO folder and its BO elements (with associated metadata).
o The new BO Folder and its BO elements are created without copying the existing metadata from the initial BO folder and BO elements.
o Depending on the tool used, we noticed that the IMAM process deletes the initial BO folder, whereas The ISTOOL process keeps the initial BO folder.

- Changing the element name within a folder in Business Objects will create a new BO element in IGC, deleting the initial BO element (with associated metadata).
o The new BO elements are created without copying existing metadata from the initial BO elements.

I'm really wondering how you can define a release process of BO elements because theses common updates will require each time a complete rework of the attributes by the data stewards...

Thanks in advance for your support.

Generally speaking IMAM and istool import semantics are the same regarding hierarchies.....an import that lacks children will imply that they have been deleted.....an entirely new leaf (or a rename) will be considered net new. I havent compared the two with BI assets but have found consistency in behavior as this relates to database assets........

Might be worth a call to your support provider. The two should behave the same.
