Permissions on /etc/inittab during installation

Post by ray.wurlod »

Got a weird error installing repository tier for version 11.5.
FAILED: Ensure permissions on file(s) /etc/services, /etc/inittab are set to 644.
Resolution: Change permissions using chmod

The weird part is that permissions on both of these was set to 664. That is, there were superfluous permissions. This check in the installer is brain dead.

Did you look at each tier settings?

Sounds like you have an external database host for xmeta.

I would check all of the tiers.

database, domain, engine

Yep, checked all those things. Changing permissions from 664 to 644 made the error go away, but IT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN AN ERROR IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Every Unix system that I have been on (so far) has those as 644.
