DataStage® Release: 11x
Job Type: Server
OS: Windows
Hi all,

We would like to fill the Long Description field in some Application assets. We are using the following csv:

+++ Application - begin +++
Name,Description,Long Description
PTN,ptn,Packet Transport Network
+++ Application - end +++

However the asset in IGC results Long Description empty:

As far as we know:
IGC Name -------------- CSV Name
IGC Short Description --- CSV Description

But which is the header for Long Description?
IGC Long Description --- CSV Long Description ¿?

Thank you !

You can't. This import only supports writing to the Short Description when populating the Description property of the asset. If I remember correctly, if the string goes over 250 characters, it wi ...

Thank you for your response.

However, the manual way is not an option. Hundreds of assets are going to be loaded into IGC.

Do you know any possibility to import information in the Long Description field?

Cheers

Yes. As I stated above, update the long descriptions programmatically after loading, using the IGC REST API. All programmatic.

Thanks Ernie, I was also trying to determine how to import long descriptions. I also confirmed this morning that any short descriptions over the character limit will automatically get moved to the long description.

Neloangelo,

One approach I was also considering was using a Custom Attribute for some of these attributes that don't get imported via the istool command line process, or for true custom attributes that aren't there by default. The process to import custom attributes through ICG is very straightforward. I wouldn't suggest doing this in mass for standard attributes that already exist, but creating one for whatever you're wanting to populate the long description with shouldn't be an issue.

Ernie,

Sorry for repeating the same question, but your reply was not showed completely ( Premium content I guess, my fault ).

I only can see this: "You can't. This import only supports writing to the Short Description when populating the Description property of the asset. If I remember correctly, if the string goes over 250 characters, it wi ..."

Brent,
About the description moved automatically, Do you mean by API REST?

I aggree your approach, that is the last solution Very Happy. However we were curious about using this natural field for all assets. Moreover we have seen commercial tools that are able to write to the Long Description, so we wondered how was it possible.

Thank you both

What I meant by automatically, was that if the Description you're importing are greater than 250 characters, the Command Line import process will automatically move that value to the Long Description.
