What is a good average number of points per post on DSXchange?

If you take a median it will be 4 and mean would be 5 or 6. It all depends on type of question being asked and time I have when I am replying.

I really don't see what purpose they serve. I typically just look at quantity of posts to see if someone is new or seasoned, and my own judgement to tell if someone is talking out of their posterior.

Many posts are great. A few posts here and there deserve negative points. The ratings per post is more meaningful than points.

Alas there's no user-facing mechanism for getting the rating figure.
But that's far less important than updating the home page and the list of version numbers.

Pfft: 100 points is easy. Just post a few pages of log file.
It's the 4-5 pointers of pure gold that should be worth more
