Top 10 Reason to Upgrade from 6.7.1 to 8.0

Post by boblopez1 »

Hi Gang,

We are looking at upgrading from 6.7.1 to 8.0 and I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions/concerns about such a move? Figured a top 10 like David Lettermen would at least make it fun.

Specifically does anyone know when support for 6.7 will be sunsetted?

what benefits we would see(bug fixes, functionality)?

what risks we might have (would we need to modify each of our existing partner maps, or retest each of them?).

Any potential issues or costs?

Can anyone point me to documentation that may be of help?

Allow me to thank you for any assistance you may provide.

Since I brought it up, I'll start the list.

TOP 10 Reasons to upgrade:

10. I can finally stop calling it Mercator it's been years

10 (x)... actually, can't stop calling it mercator because of v8 --- stop calling it mercator because it has been rebranded as Websphere/TX and is not part of the v8 Information Server product.

9. WISD is what was RTI, and supports not only DS but QS and DB2 and Federation

8. Great new impact analysis and job compare features for DS users

7. QS is totally graphic now.....riding on DS, but with its own unique "stages" for match design and standardization.

6. Information Analyzer. ProfileStage on steroids.

5. Performance Estimator!

....many more than just 4,3,2,1.......

You know... in fairness...I didn't look closely at the category ...my bad, and ditto to the poster before me.... we were paying too much attention to "Hawk" (Information Server).

WebSphere TX (DataStage/TX aka Mercator) also went thru a release phase, to release 8....before Information Server and "regular" DataStage did....

I will have to leave it to other "TX" users to comment on a top ten there.
