"Otherwise" Link Colour in Job Seqs

Post by rleishman »

Some links in Job Sequences are coloured in Designer, viz OK links are green, Conditionals are Blue, Failed are Red. Otherwise and Unconditional are both Black.

Got into a nasty bind the other day:

Normal pipelines of activities use Unconditional links, with the "Automatically Handle Activities that Fail" set in the Job Properties. Somehow a trigger was changed (accidentally) from Unconditional to Otherwise. The result was very subtle and difficult to find.

What happened was that normal processing was not affected. If the activity returns success then it follows the pipeline. In the unlikely event that the job fails, it simply stops at that point, the Exception Handler activity does not kick in, and the Sequence succeeds. It looked as though DS was simply ignoring the "Automatically Handle Activities that Fail".

A different colour for "Otherwise" would have avoided this (yes, yes; as would due care from the programmer).

So... go ahead and change it, Ross.

It's an option in the Designer.
