XML Pack 2.0.1

Post by admin »

Hi

Does anybody have any knowledge on the installation of XML Pack 2.0.1
on UNIX 11i server.
According to the release notes 'The XML PACK installation is started
by running the "install.sh" script'.
The following occurs:

The installation is run as the user 'dsadm' from /home/dsadm (the
software has been
copied from CD to this location).

When the 'install.sh'-script is run, it does everything, up to the
point where it asks you
the following:

Select the DataStage projects into which the XMLPACK will be installed

Enter project number, 'a' for all or 'q' to end selection:

When I select "a" for "all", we get the following errors:

This directory does not contain a DataStage package.
Aborting package installation.
This directory does not contain a DataStage package.
Aborting package installation.

It seems that for each project it tries to install "xmli", "xmlo" and
"xmltr", but it fails for each
and gives the error above.

We are not certain if
(a) we are installing as the correct user
(b) what is the correct directory from which to install (can it be
/home/dsadm?)
(c) what exactly the above error means i.e. what is the script looking
for

As far as we can tell, it fails in the following function in the
install.sh script, at the line
marked in bold (i.e. the line containing DSR.PACKINST).

XML Pack 2.0.1

Post by admin »

Hi Ernie

We are currently running DS 6.0.1.
The Client software installed without a problem, but the server part
is a different story.

Unfortunately the XML PACK 2.0.1 notes are not very clear on the
installation steps, any suggestions?

Thanks again

Jozef

XML Pack 2.0.1

Post by admin »

Hi Ernie

DS 7 is up and running, but now I'm struggling with the XML Meta Data
Importer.
Have you got any suggestions on the "Namespace"?
I'm reading a XSD file.

The error: " is an invalid value for the 'use' attribute

Thanks

Jozef

XML Pack 2.0.1

Post by admin »

Hi Jozef...

I can't say for sure, but usually, if there's an error in the importer, it's
truly because the xsd is invalid. There are some strict rules about xsd's,
and because we actually use the Apache xalan and xerces xslt and xml
processors, we often catch things that other tools don't. Hard to say
without seeing the xsd.

My suggestion would be two fold:

1) If you really want to know what the error is, try opening and validating
the xsd in another tool, such as XML Spy. It has a pretty good validator.

2) More important, let's get your meta data. Find an instance document.
There are some xsd's that the importer cannot read, so it's a good thing to
know how to do anyway. The importer cannot handle really complex documents
that use a concept called polymorphism. I doubt that's your problem here,
because you wouldn't get an error message in that case, just a different set
of elements and attributes. So, unless you know enough xsd to manually fix
the error you are getting, import an actual document for now....

Ernie
