File with variable length

Easy question for you:
I have a file with only one row but the length is variable.

How can I parameter that with the PX Sequential File Stage? At this moment I cannot open it when I try to view it under DataStage.

I found a solution: I declare all my record like varchar and In next step, I put the good type to my field.

If anybody has a better solution, I'm going for it.
