Null handling

Hi,
I am facing a issue in Ds 11.3 server.
A column coming from source has null value. I am populating with spaces in the transformer using str(' ',len) function.
But when I run the query for checking null it is showing that the column has null values instead of being an empty string.
Any help will be appreciated
