Extract and Load from database not using DataStage Server

If you are extracting from a database (any for example Oracle) and loading to another database (again any for example DB2) and not performing any manipulation does the data still go through the DataStage server or can you bypass the DS Server and get the data to be loaded directly from one db to another. I know on the design side DataStage inserts an "invisible transformer", at least it used to on the server edition but don't know what happens now with PX. I am asking as an investigation into network impact. Please let me know if my question is not clear.
