Hi,
What is the best suggested approach while moving to higher versions.
As earlier we have done only new installations, we are looking into the options of migrations.
1) How does normally a migration is performed while installing newer version on the same server where the older version exists?
if the hardware supports retaining the prior version and then do side-side install ? or uninstall prior and perform a new install?.
2)If a upgrade pack exists, is it preferred method to perform than a new install?
3)In general does a upgrade pack handles all features of the newer versions?
I was looking into the 11.3 to 11.5 upgrade pack guide
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.w ... wg24041335
*it does not states about the about the additional components? will they be compatible with newer version?
*do the 11.5 fixpacks to be updated after inhouse pack?
Thanks,
dj
Migrate/upgrade -newer versions

You could also go to 11.7 which was released December 2017.
You can do side by side installs of different instances of the same of different versions but it's cumbersome, sometimes sloppy, and you may end up encountering unusual issues due to using non-default port numbers. Been there, done that. It's very tedious and much more difficult to maintain.
While upgrading in place is often an option and is supported, a new install on a new server is always cleaner.
