World of Watson 2016

Post by PaulVL »

Who will be attending this years IBM World of Watson conference at Mandalay Bay in Vegas Oct 24-27?

I'm going. Looking forward to attending a bunch of sessions.

I remember a few years ago we had a mini DSXchange meetup. Was wondering if that was on the books this year as well.

I'll be there, but kinda busy. That said, a DSXchange meetup would be something I'd show up for.

Holmes rings Bell: Elementary, my dear Mr. Watson. Come here. I want to see you.

After much thought, I decided to skip this year. I'm hoping there will be more content in which I'm interested, next year.

I will be there and happy to attend something like a lunch time meetup or Sunday night drinks.

I might actually be between projects for the event and am thinking about going and it would be great to meet up again! BTW, any recommendations on finding a cheaper rate as I'll not be sponsored by anyone :)?

Excaliber had cheap rates. I am staying at a Marriot since I do the points thing.

Plus-one for Excalibur. Good combination of room rate and distance from Mandalay, you can walk or use the tram.

WoW is going great.

Lots of good sessions.

Met Ray W, Mr E Ostic, lots of IBM contacts.

Haven't ran into Vince yet, not sure what he looks like either.

It was funny to see Ray being treated like a Hollywood star "Oh can I get a picture with you?" haha. Sadly the camera was passed to me to take the pictures. LOL

Damn Paparazzi!!!

One take away for me so far... I have to try and ditch 11.3 and go to 11.5.0.1. I need those Hadoop interfaces. That built in data masking is also going to be needed. sigh... that migration will be a political hurdle.

Paul - Upgrade in place really works! I've had two clients use it so far. Just make sure you are on one of the required versions (11.3 - 11.3.1.2) and you can use the 11.5 "mod pack" to get up to 11.5!

A much easier sell ("Its a patch")....

Still moderately aggravated that I skipped WoW because my project "go-live" slid into that week. Then the Friday before the conference they pushed it out again!
