Reg Database topology

Post by BIuser »

Hi All,

We are in the process of re building our Environment by installing IIS 8.7 .

Right we are having 2 enviornments

1. Ap1 - ( Services & Repository tier )
2. Ap2 - Engine tier

Our Db2 ( Xmeta and IADB) is installed on Ap1 .

Below are our questions ( with regards to creating our Transaction databases ) ;

1. Is it advisable to put our Target and Source Databases ( both are Db2 ) also on Ap1 ?

2. Will there be drastic improvement in the performance if we Separate our Target and Source Databases from IIS domain ?

Please clarify

Regards

1. It doesn't really matter.
2. Probably not. But it depends on many other factors, particularly on the speed of the network segments between the database servers and your services and (especially) engine tiers.

For Q1 it can matter depending on the size of the server, expected volume and frequency of processing, and licensing. You could possibly save a lot on license costs / maintenance by sizing that tier much smaller and putting heavy workload elsewhere. And that really depends on your pricing model.
