Upgrade options from IIS 9.1 to 11.5

Post by abeljoy80@gmail.com »

Hi,

We are on IIS 9.X. I am trying to find my various options to move to 11.5 like coexist, stand up new instance, in place upgrade (if possible), bridge to cloud, IBM services, etc.

It would be great if you can share some ideas on how you moved from 9.1 to 11.x, the number of jobs you had to migrate, etc.

If you can share any deck or document around this, that would be great. Thank you

Bridge to cloud would be the fastest option - IBM has released DataStage on Cloud now where you just pick a tshirt size and provision environments almost instantly. This qualifies for Bridge to Cloud pricing where you can try out Cloud pricing for a while and revert back to your current license if it doesn't suit you. This option would let you run the old and new DataStage environments in parallel to conduct your testing.

Co-exist on the same server only works if you have enough CPU/RAM capacity and it doesn't cause unexpected stress testing errors. A lot of upgrades use this time to upgrade to a new version of the operating system and metadata repository database. DataStage 9.1 for example is compatible with Red Hat 5 and 6 or SuSe 10 and 11 while 11.5 is Red Hat 6 and 7 and only SuSe 11. So sometimes it's easier to provision a new set of physical/virtual servers on the latest operating system to install and test the upgrade.

You should also check new version 11.5 entitlements - most of the ERP Packs are now free with DataStage 11.5 and the Optim masking pack and Balanced Optimizer are also included.
