Should there be a discussion of centers of excellence, I've seen them come full circle, from very successful start to not-with-a-bang-with-a-whimper end.
Excellent polls, Kim.

After I left the COE team at BCBS I went to the ODS team. We developed a cool near real time ODS using DataStage the ended winning the TDWI best practice the following year. HCSC is the real company name because each Blue Cross licenses the name. Look it up. I think we won because we had an attitude of excellence.

We set up an Information Management Centre of Excellence in the Department of Defence (Australia) some eight years back, concentrating on data quality issues and techniques. It is still in operation, gathering to its bosom more and more parts of the Department's information assets.
