Subject: Oracle Bulk loader

Hi PPL,

Can someone tell me what the difference is between the OraBulk stage and
the OraOCIBL stage and which one to use when?

I cannot find a pdf on the OraBulk stage on the cd, so I cannot tell the
difference between the two. It does seem weird to have two stage to
accomplish the same thing...besides the fact that the OraBulk stage does
not allow one to sepcify basic connection options like dbname/username etc.
I assume it's only used for creating a .ctl and .dat file to be loaded
manually into Oracle.

We want to use a bulk loader to load Oracle 9i siiting on a Win2k machine
from our DS 6 server sitting on the same machine.

Thanks,
Tom.

You've found the difference, Tom. One is strictly for creating the files
necessary to do bulk loading and the other will do the bulk loading for you.
Since your Oracle instance is on the same server as DataStage, you have your
choice - whereas someone who's target instance is on another server could
only make use of the OraBulk stage, I believe.

Also note that you can do more than just load the OraBulk files "manually",
they can be ftp'd (if needed) and loaded via a scripted action.
