CDC (Change Data Capture) for DataStage

Post by admin »

Hi there,

Ive already asked about CDC. But as I remember Ive received no any concrete answer. Maybe now such man, wholl answer, will be found.

Weve received CDC for DataStage for NT and during the reading of the "Release Notes" Ive learnt about CDC uses Sybase Replication Server. Whether its truth or not?

If truth - can anybody tell me a word about "How it works?"
As Ive got there must be the next components (minimum):
-DS Server
-DS Client
-CDC-Plugin for DS
-Sybase Replication Server
-Sybase Open Client (if Server besides on the different host)

Am I right?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Marat,

CDC for DataStage does use the Sybase Replication Server!

And yes the components that you specified does require all of the components you specified.

The cdc plugin actually contains a number of parts. First it contains a service that runs that gets configured to handle all communication with the Sybase Rep Server. This service acts as both a Server and a Client to the Sybase Rep Server. There is administrative software that comes with the pluggin to use to create the subscriptions thru the Sybase Rep Server to the databases that have been identified to the Sybase Rep Server. When setting this up you are actually going to identify a location that the replicated information is stored on the DataStage Server. These locations are what are referred to as Persistent Ques. The next part of the plugin is the actual piece that DataStage Designer will utilize which is a stage. From this stage you specify the queue that you want to use and other characteristics that you want to pass along such as retrieve all changes (add, update, delete) or individual entries.

When everything is configured and running this process runs really smooth. But !!!!!!!!! This is not for the faint hearted.
In the past the time required to get this environment set up is very time consuming. If you already have gotten the Sybase Rep Server in place then it is relatively easy to set up from there.
