DataStage on UNIX

Post by admin »

Our company is wondering what is involved in switching from the NT version of DataStage to a UNIX version.

Besides the increased license cost, what type of UNIX is DataStage best suited to run on? For instance, a tech asked me if it would be okay on Linux. Not being a UNIX person, I just scratched my head and decided to ask the List. Also, would it run on True64 UNIX?

Thanks.

For the strict absolute latest up to date information visit the Informix /
Ardent software web site and look at the availability matrix:

I am aware of one site that is running DataStage on Sun Solaris with very
good results. They have hundreds of jobs scheduled daily, processing huge
amounts of data. I would take a long look at the amount of data you are
processing and make sure the server you select is fully capable of handling
the load. While Linux is proving to be very competitive my inclination
would be to go with a platform that has more years of deployment, hence
tends to be more "industrial strength". Suggestions Sun, HP, IBM with RS/6000.

All of these platforms are available with release 4.0 (according to the web
site). Release 4.1 is currently available for Windows NT.

I would steer clear of DEC Alpha. Informix sales, would probably say otherwise, but the Alpha platform is one of the last to be ported to, Merant do not have good support for ODBC drivers on Alpha anymore. Therefore, its future support I believe is not concrete. I would go with SUN by preference.

Linux and Compaq true 64 are available, the most popular platform (in
Europe) tends to be HP or Sun Solaris. If you are going with true 64 check the version compatibility (on the website).

If you have a choice Id go for one of these, but it makes no major difference.

On a personal note Id heed the comments below on Linux.
