I need your help and will be glad to accept any suggestion.
We have the next ARDENT DATASTAGE 4.0.2A Server on
SUN MICROSYSTEMS SPARC & ENTERPRISE SPARC MODELS SOLARIS.
Its sayed in the "Installation Instruction" that DS 4.0 does not include NLS. But during the installation process were asked about "Do you want to install NLS?". And there are several options: None English Japan Korean Chinese Thai 0. The case when I choose None is clear 1. Ive chosen English and Ive gotten grayed NLS button in DS Administrator both for server and all of projects. With this configuration DS NLS-related function worked wrong 2. Ive chosen Japan and Ive gotten possibility to choose NLS for the Server and for projects. And functions work well. But all messages in the Log and in some other places look like ???????? ????.

accessible NLS
right working functions
well looking messages

How to get UNIX DataServer with NLS

the NLS activation also requires that you activate the appropriate code pages on your client system, the messages in the log files are written in codepage ISO8859, the default Japanese pages. If you dont have that activated on the display side then they will show up as lots of "?" marks.
I have just checked on my system and installed NLS 4.0.2 on a Windoze 2000 system with the "English" language and have no problems running NLS, all of the UNIX installations that Ive done to date with NLS have worked with no problems on the character set front.
If you re-do the NLS installation with English and make sure you load the appropriate code pages I am fairly certain it will work. If not, and the NLS box in the administrator remains greyed out, you could check the NLS settings from the TCL prompt; probably it would be best to contact the support people in that case.
