We are in a process of Migration to Datastage 7.1 from 5.2
Should we upgrade the version or we should uninstall datastage 5.2 and Install 7.1 fresh? What will happen to the hash files data ??
We want to keep the existing hash file data.

In either case the hashed files will be preserved.
If you upgrade, you will need to do nothing.
If you uninstall, any hashed files in the project (I happen to know that most of your hashed files ARE in the project) will be lost, and so will need to be restored from backup and VOC entries created after installing the new version.
You ALWAYS take a special backup before upgrading, and you verify that you've got a good backup before proceeding.

If you are planning to uninstall 5.2 and install 7.x, then it's better to change the jobs which have hash file to use directory path instead of Datastage Universe. As a special care you can take backup of all the appendable hash files in sequential files. Especially Customer Master application is using lot of hash files which are appended by daily run.
