8.1 Fix Pack 2 is very buggy

So we wanted to be proactive and apply DataStage 8.1 Fix Pack 2 since it has been out there for 11 months now. Wham! It caused two bugs so far, but these seem to be known issues that are documented in IBM support's web site. There are patches, but the patches are for the 8.5 version and IBM doesn't ...

Not sure what country you are in, but I think you want the Info Mgmt option. It looks like the (Info Mgmt 706 & 736) option is for a Cognos exam and a DB2 upgrade exam only which are lower cost exams. To take the 418 DataStage v8 exam, the base Info Mgmt voucher should be the one you want. In th...

Have you tried increasing the number of sessions that your Teradata connection is using? Try increasing to one third of the number of AMP's. For example, if you have a system with 72 AMP's, you would start with 24 sessions. This is the Minimum Sessions setting in the stage. This will increase parall...

Teradata reserved word

I'm using DataStage 8.1 with the Teradata Connector stage set to variant 12 and the "Enable quoted identifiers" option set. The target is Teradata 13.10. When I try to update a table with the reserved word "POSITION" as a column name, I get this error message: Message Id:IIS-CONN...

Yeah, IBM has really hidden the practice test, but it is still there. See this topic for the link:

Another option - if you go to the IBM Information On Demand conference (October 23 - October 27, 2011) you can take three certification exams for free. You can also take the assessment tests for free if you are attending the conference. http://www-01.ibm.com/software/data/2011-conference/certificati...

Are you able to logon to the web console? (http://servername:9080) Sometimes when a specific job gets hosed, I can't run the job or open the log. To fix this I logon to the Administrator client, click the Command button on the Projects tab and issue this command: DS.REINDEX ALL You could also try th...

I think you have to manually delete the column analysis results. In 8.1, the function is under the Investigate...Table Management option. Then you select the table name that was used for column analysis and click the Delete link under the Tasks menu on the right pane.

We recently evaluated Oracle Exadata and I think the biggest challenge would be loading the IBM Information Server software on the Exadata servers. Everything within the rack communicates at InfiniBand speeds so it's very fast, but if you install Information Server outside the rack then you're commu...

Congratulations! Time to update your resume with your new certification. Are you going to order the printed certificate to hang on your wall? It's really nice and only about $12 US.

You could use DataStage 8.1 on the Amazon cloud:

While it's not free or the latest 8.5 version, it is cheap for learning the product at home.
