Along those lines, it could be a keep alive or connection timeout setting in a firewall. We ran into that before with a different type of database connection.

Seems like an unusual requirement...

The first thing that comes to mind is to take the expression and put in into a UNIX Korn shell for evaluation inside of the $(( )) syntax:
