There are some descriptions with minimums for the settings, a lot of warnings about not changing them, ans so on. Can anyone help with which ones are safe and what the values for those really mean? I'm looking to avoid the pitfalls. I've observed two installs done by consultants and they went horribly wrong costing a lot of time and money.

Is there a forum for upgrades? It may be good to add one as the 7.5 to 8 upgrade has some serious changes in install requirements and tasks.

Question: does anyone use Director for scheduling in Unix? Or is everyone still writing shell scripts?

It was my understanding that 7.x Director became industrial strength and reduced the need for shell scripting.
