Came back today after the weekend and was thankfull to see al of your input. I have to say that all of these prove to be true. I wondered about the claim of dsenv not being a place to tune and was glad to see the reply stating that it is. It contains disk cache, memory, and file handling parameters ...

dsenv and performance tuning

I'm trying to tune our environment and am not finding much in the docs as to how set things up. There are some descriptions with minimums for the settings, a lot of warnings about not changing them, ans so on. Can anyone help with which ones are safe and what the values for those really mean? Also, ...

The Training Center

One of the reasons I joined as a Premium Member was to get access to more of the FAQs, Videos, Tips and Techniques. There isn't much more for premium money than there is for a free member. There are no FAQS or TIPS to be found. Can you think about expanding this area? I know for one I would like to ...

Upgrade black holes...

I'm looking to avoid the pitfalls. I've observed two installs done by consultants and they went horribly wrong costing a lot of time and money.

Upgrades

Is there a forum for upgrades? It may be good to add one as the 7.5 to 8 upgrade has some serious changes in install requirements and tasks.

We will be upgrading soon and I wnat to be ready.

Thanks 8)

Which is it: SQL or Excell?

You are asking how to load an Excell file into SQL Server and you have been shown how.

I'm not sure I know how your data can be an Excell file and a SQL Server table at the same time.

Please clarify.....be specific...

Additional question...

Also, I'm still curious if folks are still prefering to write shell scripts? It seems that it is becoming an unnecesary thing to do.

Thanks

We had a debate going on here-a co worker was claiming that because Director was a client that the schedule was kept local and if you shut off the PC, the schedule would fail. I explained that DS on Unix used cron and at but he was pretty persistent.... Thanks for the support. We only have one remai...

Director in 7.5 and above

Question: does anyone use Director for scheduling in Unix? Or is everyone still writing shell scripts?

It was my understanding that 7.x Director became industrial strength and reduced the need for shell scripting.

Thoughts please.....

Delta Logic

I assume you are talking about how to determine if there have been changes to a record? You will find scenerios like this everywhere in DataStage documentation. All of the mechanics are spelled out, yet they do not show you how to USE the tool. There are many ways to determine a delta. Please provid...

Guarenteeing uniqueness...

We have a guy who wants to use a table with 50 columns(approx 250 in length) and he wants to avoid duplicates. He has no unique key unless he concatrs all 50 cols. I had said to use a CRC32 function but he claims that there is no quarentee of uniqueness with the CRC.. Any ideas? and by the way, I be...

What's the #PASSORD#? If I'm passing to an environment variable, I believe I have to have the $ in front. And I have to assume a typo there-should it not be #$PASSWORD#
