For the Perl based cutter in this thread you can use Cygwin but you can also use ActiveState Perl: http://www.activestate.com/Products/ActivePerl/ The Perl cutter works fine but it has a few issues: 1. It only 'cuts' jobs and nothing else like shared containers, etc. 2. It drops some lines from DSX ...

Speed up WAN client <-> server connectivity
When using the DataStage 7.5.1.a Designer over a T-3 (45mbit/sec) link seems several times slower than using Designer over a local LAN. For instance, the initial login takes about 35 seconds over the WAN link while it might take 4 seconds over the local link. Anyone have any tips on how to speed thi...

There are free libraries available that can be used in perl scripts, which look amazingly like korn shell scripts, that flatten XLS spreadsheets into CSV files for the worksheets contained therein. They will materialize data out of cells containing functions, as well as do other things. You're on y...

7zip compression of a DSX file.
Just an FYI.. My recent backups of some of my DataStage projects have been around a gigabyte in size. Aside from 'chopping' the extracted DSX file and versioning the individual jobs in Subversion I have also been saving a zipped copy of the DSX file, just in case. Recently I tried 7zip because I was...

Re: Tool to export jobs without their related shared contain
Dear All, Our warehouse project has about 3000 jobs and we need to export the job designs[not the executables] individually without their related shared containers included. I am using a tool to export the jobs individually which uses "dsexport" but it is including the shared containers a...

There is also a Perl script which someone posted to split a full export into one per job. I think it is called DsxParse.pl. BTW.. I think I just found an error with the ParseDSX.pl that might be a show-stopper for some people out there. The error (again.. I think) is if you have a line in your DSX ...

Automated / command line compiles of jobs.
I think I saw a post where the answer was "no".. but I just want to ask again to be sure.. I am creating some scripts that check jobs (and other DSX files) out of a version control system and then imports them into a Datastage instance under a specific project. Is there anyway to have thos...

Determining job 'ownership' in a project..
I have a folder with 1500 jobs and about 45 developers.. Is there any way to figure out (besides the obvious thing like asking my developers) who was the last person (or user ID) to modify or create a job?
thanks!
thanks!

'packaging' jobs
This is a newbie question..
Is it possible to 'package' (like in a RPM or DPKG format) the deployment directory that is created after a job is compiled and move that compiled job to a different DataStage server that is running the same OS and DataStage version?

Re: This worked great!
If anyone else sees the merits of having shared containers 'cut out' too.. I'll gladly give it shot.
